BROADWAY BOUND

Actors will spend the year exploring character, learning choreography, and proper singing technique under the direction of an expert musical theatre educator. Broadway Bound will allow each actor to deliver lines, sing, dance, and be part of a theatrical ensemble which builds stage presence and self-confidence.

Directors Laura Backley and Nick Foster are experienced music educators with backgrounds in musical theater direction. Both instructors share a passion for teaching and creating a life-long love of musical theater in children.

THE ASPIRING VOCALIST

Are you eager to improve your singing skills? Do you have upcoming vocal or theater auditions and want to be at your best? The Aspiring Vocalist is the appropriate route of voice study for students in late elementary and early middle school. The group class environment allows the young student to share solos with their friends, and have the opportunity to sing in small ensemble. These skills are essential to the healthy development of young vocalists.

This full year class culminates in a cabaret performance showcasing both individual and ensemble achievements.

PLAYWRIGHTS WORKSHOP

For the serious and budding dramatist, Playwrights Workshop offers an opportunity to cultivate your unique voice while digging deep into the fundamentals of writing for the stage. This intensive-style class will be host to quick-fire writing exercises, interactive lectures, and peer-feedback-driven workshop sessions. In workshops, students will read out loud each others work and develop a vocabulary for meaningful feedback. Over the course of the year, students will focus on the development of two ten minute plays and a one act play.

This course will culminate in The ANMS Playwrights’ Festival in the spring, where professional Boston actors will present the students work in a staged reading open to friends and family.
