Our mission.

Our mission at All Newton Music School is to weave 'Music for All' into the very fabric of our community. For over a century, ANMS has been a nurturing ground for musical growth, from your first note played to your performance. Whether you're exploring classical or musical theater, every age, interest, and ability finds a haven here. All Newton Music School stands as a welcoming musical home for all.

Our beginnings.

Over a century ago, a passionate violinist and composer named Elizabeth Fyffe had a dream for Newton: she envisioned a place where everyone, no matter their age or background, could immerse themselves in the magic of music. Today, All Newton Music School proudly carries her mission forward. While we've grown and expanded beyond Elizabeth's initial dream, the heart of her mission still beats strong in our halls.

Our doors are always open, and our fantastic faculty and staff are excited to meet you, guide you, and join you on every step of your musical journey. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time, eager to dive into music appreciation at a concert, or ready to shine on the theater stage, there's a place for you here.

Our alumni include world-class musicians and soloists to folks who champion music in their lives and community – they all started their journey right here.

Timeline:

1911: Our journey started with Elizabeth Fyffe, a talented concert violinist. We were founded on her vision, initially making a cozy home in a West Newton kindergarten. Right from the start, we partnered with Newton Public Schools, fostering a strong bond of mutual growth.

1946: As our reputation blossomed, so did our need for space. We joyfully established our roots at the corner of Walnut and Cabot Streets, a significant milestone in our journey.

1965: With Anne Gombosi guiding us, we transitioned to our current home at 321 Chestnut Street. This move was more than a change of address; it marked an expansion of our vision. We opened our doors to students of all ages, and our offerings broadened to embrace various musical genres.

1974 - 1976: Ayrton Pinto, a distinguished violinist from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, joined our family as Director, infusing our school with added depth and expertise.

1977 - 1985: During Andrew Wolf's tenure, a renowned pianist, we experienced transformative growth. His leadership set the stage for innovation, and we continue to celebrate his legacy with the Andrew Wolf Outdoor Stage, Benefit Concert Series, and Season Subscription named in his honor.

1986 - 2023: Paulette Bowes' Legacy at ANMSPaulette Bowes, a gifted clarinetist, embraced the role of Executive Director following a meaningful journey as Associate Director under Andrew Wolf. Her 38-year tenure leading us was defined by significant advancements in our course diversity, inclusivity, and a deepening of our community ties. In 2023, Paulette transitioned to Executive Director Emerita, remaining a key figure in our community as a mentor, clarinet instructor, and chamber music coach, and continuing to dazzle in the Con Brio Luncheon Concert Series and Faculty Concert Series. Her lasting impact echoes through every corner of our school.

2023 - Present: Welcoming Evan M. Haas, who brings a decade of passion and commitment to ANMS. As our new Executive Director, he's dedicated to honoring our rich history while guiding us toward a bright and exciting future.
