The first step to volunteering with us is to reach out to the nominating committee outlining your interest in joining our community. After an initial phone or email exchange, an in-person meeting with a committee member may be arranged. Typically, first-time volunteers join as a Member of the Corporation and if there is continued interest after the term, there is a possibility to join the Board of Trustees or continue as a Member

All Newton Music School’s Corporation is an advisory council of members who actively support the school’s mission.

Members of the Corporation help with general input and assistance both to the Board of Trustees and to the School as a whole. Members of the Corporation actively support the mission of the All Newton Music School by serving as ambassadors for the school in the community at large.

Among their possible activities, members of the corporation help the school to thrive in the following ways:

  • Serve a 3 year term, which is renewable
  • Attend annual meeting at which the school’s budget, operations and goals are reviewed, and new members of the Board of Trustees and the Corporation are selected
  • Make All Newton Music School a charitable giving priority at whatever level is right for them
  • Attend recitals, concerts, fundraising activities and special events such as Music in May and actively recruit others to attend
  • Volunteer to help one of numerous committees at ANMS, such as Development, Finance, Strategic Planning, special event planning.

Members of the Board of Trustees at All Newton Music School occupy a central role in the life of the school. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance, direction, policies, and fiscal control of the school. All board members have fiduciary responsibility to the organization for sound financial management and to ensure that the school has the resources it needs to fulfill its mission and strategic goals.

Individual trustees are expected to actively support the mission of the All Newton Music School by serving as ambassadors for the school in the community at large.

Specific Duties and Expectations:

  • Serve a full three‐year term with the possibility of serving an additional three year term.
  • Attend all scheduled Board meetings and actively participate in Board discussions. Board meetings are typically once per month during the period from September through June.
  • Understand the school’s organization, mission, goals, objectives, and Bylaws. Stay informed about the school’s current programs and issues.
  • Serve on committees and accept special assignments as requested and as possible.
  • Make the All Newton Music School a charitable giving priority. There is no minimum donation, but 100% participation from trustees is expected.
  • Attend major school‐sponsored fundraising and cultivation events, as well as school performances, recitals, and other programs as frequently as possible.
  • Help solicit funds, and help open doors for others to raise funds.
  • Understand that the board sets policies and focuses on long range and strategic issues. Board members are not directly involved in specific management, personnel or program issues.
  • Avoid any conflict of interest or the appearance of such conflict in any and all events on behalf of the school.

In summary, the goal of the Board of Trustees is to have each member participate fully in his or her role as a steward of the All Newton Music School.
