Biography
Desmond Neysmith, cello |
Winner of the 3rd Annual Senior Division Sphinx Organization Competition 2000, cellist Desmond Neysmith performs as part of the Sphinx/DaimlerChrysler Financial Services Professional Development Program.
Desmond Neysmith received his Bachelor's degree at the Royal College of Music studying with Professor Steven Doane. He continued at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Karine Georgian. During his training he was the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including the Countess of Munster Trust, the Musician's Benevolent Fund, the Myra Hess Fund, the Emmanuel Hurwitz Chamber Music Charitable Trust, the Dorothy Grinstead Fund, and the KPMG Martin Musical Scholarship Fund. Mr. Neysmith also won first prize at the 2000 Texaco Sphinx Competition.
Mr. Neysmith has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Florida's New World Symphony, and symphony orchestras in Atlanta, Baltimore, Hartford, and Louisiana. In Culiacan, Mexico, Neysmith also made appearances with La Orquesta Sinaloa Sinfonica de las Artes where he currently holds the co-principal chair.
Furthermore, Mr. Neysmith has always been interested in other genres of performance. His music theatre company, "The Gogmagogs," has toured Asia, Europe, and the United States. His music theatre took him a step further; his involvement in London's West End production of Bent by Martin Sherman had Neysmith playing a straight acting role and becoming the narrator. Neysmith also co-wrote and performed the score for solo cello.
Future performances include Chamber music, recitals, a performance of Elgar's cello concerto, and his annual attendance, as a founding member, at the Northern Lights Music Festival in Ajijic, Mexico.
