A native of Japan, flutist Mana Washio received her performance degrees from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music (B.M.), the Oberlin Conservatory (A.D.), and the Boston University School for the Arts (M.M.).

Mana Washio is an active solo, chamber, and orchestra musician. She has played with the Boston Lyric Opera, the Opera New England, the National Lyric Opera, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Washio has also held principal flute positions with the New England Philharmonic, the Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Wind Symphony. In addition, she actively performs in various chamber music ensembles: flute & guitar, flute & harp, flute & marimba, woodwind duo, trio, quintet and many others.

Her past opera performances include: Puccini's La Boheme and La Rondine, Verdi's La Traviata, Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Copland's The Tender Land, Blitzstein's Regina and Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel.

Ms. Washio has been invited to perform in Honduras (the Japanese Embassy in Honduras, 2003) and in Japan (the Okayama Flute Festival in 2002 & 2008, and the Okayama Music Festival in 2005). She has appeared on radio, TV, and in newspapers in both countries.

She has released 2 CDs: "Spring Sea" in 2002 (Flute & Harp) and "En Priere" in 2005 (Flute & Piano). Her newest CD will be released in 2011.
