2007-2008 CoN BRIo Performance Luncheon Series

This performance will involve an exploration of improvisational space, from soundscapes to expressionistic, sonic “action painting”. Listeners will be invited to draw their own conclusions and make their own narrative. One or two sketches may be used, but most, if not all, of the concert will be improvised.

Wes Matthews was born in South Bend, IN and raised in Decatur, IL. He studied jazz trumpet and classical piano at DePaul University in Chicago before transferring to The New England Conservatory to earn a B.M. in jazz composition, studying with composer/trombonist Bob Brookmeyer. As an improvisor Wes has performed at the 2005 & 2006 Zeitgeist Piano Festival.
