Thomas Martin joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops in 1984. He began his professional music career as a clarinetist, saxophonist, and flutist in Wisconsin when he was 13 years old. He received formal training at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he was a student of Stanley Hasty and former BSO clarinetist Peter Hadcock.

Mr. Martin is assistant principal and E-flat clarinetist with the BSO and principal clarinetist with the Boston Pops, and former principal clarinetist with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician, Martin has appeared at Symphony Hall, Tanglewood Music Festival, and Stamford University. He has given masterclasses at the Tanglewood Institute and at universities.

Currently, Mr. Martin also serves on the faculties of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Boston University College of Fine Arts.
